Mystic Quest (released in North America as FINAL FANTASY ADVENTURE), the first title in what would become the Mana series, was released on June 28, 1991 in Japan, making its 30th anniversary just a few days away!
Mystic Quest tells the story of the Gemma Knights, holders of the sacred swords who protect the Tree of Mana, and those who attempt to obtain the Tree's power for their own purposes.

To commemorate the game’s 30th anniversary, FF Weekly brings you a comment from Mana series producer Masaru Oyamada!
When I played Mystic Quest the characters Mr. Koichi Ishii created really hooked me in, and I was completely absorbed in Mr. Yoshinori Kitase’s stories. My captivation with the game was such that even after my Game Boy’s battery died, I still had the soundtrack by Mr. Kenji Ito repeating in my head.
And now the Mana series, first given life through the lineage of FINAL FANTASY, has reached the ripe age of 30 years old. I’ve become an old man too, and can’t help but smile seeing Watts’ name in FFXIV. It makes me so happy to think that perhaps a little bit of Mana has been carried down in FF titles over the years.
We hope you continue to enjoy the Mana games and will work hard to make it a series as long-lived and beloved as FINAL FANTASY.
