The long-awaited Magic: The Gathering — FINAL FANTASY set will soon release on June 13! In anticipation of this exciting event, we're introducing some of the cards in the set – sixteen articles for sixteen mainline games in the series!
The elements we showcase here range from iconic characters to defining moments—aspects that encompass the essence of the FINAL FANTASY franchise.
For our third showcase, we’d like to show you one card from FINAL FANTASY III.
“The Crystal’s Chosen” focuses on the introduction of FINAL FANTASY III, where four young protagonists explore a cave and discover a crystal within its depths. “The crystal grants them a portion of its power, and with it, these “Warriors of Light” must stop the oncoming flood of darkness.
The card distills an iconic aspect of FINAL FANTASY—an encounter with a crystal and the determination of young heroes to save the world.

The Crystal’s Chosen
What an epic moment! This card depicts the scene where the Wind Crystal chooses the Onion Knights to become the Heroes of Light. The card itself makes four 1/1 Hero tokens and then powers up every creature on your board, to reflect the story of summoning your adventuring party and imbuing them with the power of the crystals. Crystals are such an important element of FINAL FANTASY, the team wanted to showcase the magical and powerful nature of these mystical crystals as much as possible. This piece just fills me with hope and optimism; I am ready for adventure!
