The long-awaited Magic: The Gathering — FINAL FANTASY set will soon release on June 13! In anticipation of this exciting event, we're introducing some of the cards in the set – sixteen articles for sixteen mainline games in the series!
The elements we showcase here range from iconic characters to defining moments—aspects that encompass the essence of the FINAL FANTASY franchise.
For our tenth showcase, we’d like to show you a few cards from FINAL FANTASY X.

The first cards feature one of the main characters of FINAL FANTASY X, the summoner Yuna. Summoner is a job class in the FINAL FANTASY franchise whose skillset revolves around the ability to conjure powerful monsters to lend their aid or fight in their stead.
There are two cards featuring her: “Yuna, Hope of Spira” which can be found in the Main set, and “Yuna, Grand Summoner” which can be found in the Commander Deck. Both focus on her ability to call upon beings with exceptional powers to aid her in battle.

One of the entities Yuna can summon in the game is the great dragon Bahamut. Those of his ilk will remain on battlefield after being called forth and fight on the summoner’s behalf for a few turns, before unleashing a final impressive attack and vanishing. For “Summon: Bahamut,” we wanted to replicate that same behavior in TCG form.

The cards we showcased today highlight the classic FINAL FANTASY job class, summoner, and the powerful beings they convoke. As long as they have the resources, a summoner can call upon these entities as many times as needed, making them invaluable in battle. Come experience the raw power of Bahamut firsthand by giving FINAL FANTASY X a spin!
We’ve received some additional comments on them from Magic: The Gathering’s very own Principle Narrative Game Designer: Dillon Deveney!
Yuna (Main Set & Commander)
When depicting Yuna on both of her cards, we knew that we had to focus in on her Summoner abilities. In the Main Set, we depicted the moment when Yuna summons Valefor and they embrace with a gentle hug to show their relationship. Valefor is integral to Yuna's abilities as a young Summoner and is the first Summon Yuna has access to, so of course we needed to see them together! Her Commander card is more broadly open in its flavor, because we see Yuna in the middle of casting a spell. We use screenshots from the game to inspire this piece, seeing the glowing aura she has when she casts a spell in battle and how she wields her staff in combat and during the Sending ritual. It’s a piece that wants to communicate many story details about Yuna's character and capabilities.
Summon: Bahamut
I remember seeing Bahamut as a kid when I first played FINAL FANTASY X and I was blown away. He was just the coolest thing I could ever imagine! And honestly, he still is! I was sure this was the Bahamut we needed to show early on. The Narrative Designer on my team who wrote the art description was Nick Marcantel and he is a huge Bahamut fan! He really worked in every detail that made this character so interesting into the art commission. The artist, Arif Wijaya, rocked the art for this card, and I think it exudes all the same aura of coolness that the original cutscene has (in my opinion). This is a very special card, and I hope everyone opens a copy!
Magic: The Gathering — FINAL FANTASY will be available for purchase on June 13. Until then, why not come (re-)familiarize yourself with the world of FINAL FANTASY? If you simply can’t wait, be among the first to play with the collaboration cards via prerelease at authorized retailers come Friday, June 6!
