The long-awaited Magic: The Gathering — FINAL FANTASY set will soon release on June 13! In anticipation of this exciting event, we're introducing some of the cards in the set – sixteen articles for sixteen mainline games in the series!
The elements we showcase here range from iconic characters to defining moments—aspects that encompass the essence of the FINAL FANTASY franchise.
In this showcase, we’d like to show you two cards from FINAL FANTASY XIV.
The first card we'd like to introduce is Ultima.
This illustration depicts a destructive magick of unparalleled power, capable of reducing even the mightiest fortress to smoke and ash. In FINAL FANTASY XIV, this ancient technique is wielded by a deadly weapon pitted against the Warrior of Light.
Next, we have Summon: Primal Odin.
The world of FINAL FANTASY XIV is home to myriad races, including those that summon deities known as primals through the power of faith and prayer. Odin is an elder primal whose believers have long since perished. Even so, he is possessed of immense power, able to defeat any foe with a single stroke of his sword, Zantetsuken.
These two iconic elements of the FINAL FANTASY series are showcased here as their iterations from FINAL FANTASY XIV. Face off against the ancient magick Ultima and the summon Odin by trying out the game today!

Ultima
“Such devastation . . . this was not my intention!” That's for you FINAL FANTASY XIV fans! Ultima was a spell we knew we had to make. It was always a board wipe of some capacity, and it needed to feel like one of the most powerful spells in FINAL FANTASY. We had so many different creative options to choose from on how to showcase this spell. Ultimately, we landed on FINAL FANTASY XIV as the creative fit for this card, because it’s one of the most well-known scenes and has one of the most beloved quotes in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. I know so many fans will be excited to cast this spell, wipe the board, and do their best Gaius van Baelsar impression. Special thanks to both Gavin Verhey and Hans Ziegler for ensuring I had room on this card to use this quote.
Summon: Primal Odin
If we made an Odin card, that means we had to use Zantetsuken! Gavin and his team understood the assignment and quickly experimented with all the various ways to "one shot" a player in MTG. The art feels so powerful and imposing -- and the card's mechanics feel the exact same way!
