The FINAL FANTASY TRADING CARD GAME (FFTCG) is a global hit. With Opus IX Lords & Chaos slated to be released on July 19, we’ll be introducing two cards from the set in an FF Portal exclusive sneak peek.

Lilty [9-079R]

The first card we’d like to introduce is a Lilty soldier illustrated by Akane Saito. The Lilty are a tribe from FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES, and despite their adorable appearance, they’re strong and capable warriors wielding spears and hammers. This illustration of a Lilty in mid-swing perfectly captures the nature of their character.
Starting from Opus IX, booster packs have a chance to contain fully illustrated cards sans card frame, allowing you to further appreciate the art. If you get your hands on such a card, please enjoy the carefully composed artwork!
This card has a unique ability that triggers when it blocks: you add a card to your hand. Paired with a summon that doesn’t receive damage like Cockatrice [5-081C], it gives you a chance of blocking on the next turn without getting broken. It has 7,000 power, making it a great card to play with Carbuncle [5-077H].
As it adds a Forward to your hand before the Forwards deal damage to each other, if Cloud [1-182L] is under your control, for example, you can use his Omnislash ability to break the Forward attacking the Lilty to keep them in the game. If your opponent is the one with a Lilty card, tread carefully.

I enjoyed this immensely because I love Lilties so much, I chose to play one in FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES Echoes of Time! I had rough drafts centered around their adorable nature, but I ultimately went with what you see here because I wanted to capture their greatest asset: a small body with tremendous power. I also put a lot of thought in the plump cheeks and fierce scowl.
Chaos (MOBIUS) [9-123L]

The next card we’d like to introduce is Chaos, the main antagonist of MOBIUS FINAL FANTASY’s Warrior of Light episode, illustrated by Toshitaka Matsuda. In MOBIUS FINAL FANTASY, this being is feared by the people of Palamecia and the Warriors of Light. This illustration captures its menacing quality, giving people who have yet to play the game a taste of this monstrous animation.
In FFTCG, powerful boss characters tend to be associated with the Dark element, and Chaos is no exception. However, once on the field, its abilities require elements other than Dark. Fire is required to deal damage, Ice to discard cards, and Lightning to defeat opposing monsters. Of course, paying the CP for all three elements will let you perform all actions. With so many possibilities, this could be a card that gives birth to a new type of deck.

I was given the opportunity to illustrate Chaos, the last boss from MOBIUS FINAL FANTASY, and one of my original designs. A dark being, born from and perishing in darkness, he is the personification of catastrophe and a threat to Palamecia. But he’s also a lonesome being who’s never known love. The pure, pristine crystals are juxtaposed with the evil and sad nature of this creature.
